Iona becomes a Fairtrade Island., Scottish Borders

Iona becomes a Fairtrade Island.

On 12th January Iona became a Fairtrade Island.

To qualify for Fairtrade Island status, Iona had to show that:
1. The local council had passed a resolution supporting fairtrade.
2. A range of Fairtrade products was readily available in local shops and cafes.
3. Fairtrade products were in use by a number of local workplaces and community organisations.
4. The campaign was being actively promoted by media coverage and popular support.

Iona exceeded the targets set, with support from Historic Scotland, the Iona Community, Iona Primary School and employers and B&B's on the island.

Fairtrade Fortnight will be held from 25th February to 9th March 2008.
