Bunessan & Creich Churches
Standing in the middle of the village of Bunessan is Bunessan Church. It is now part of the grouping of Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon and the Ross of Mull linked with Iona Parish Church, with one Minister, resident in Bunessan, looking after the spiritual needs of the whole Ross. Bunessan Church was built in 1804 as a replacement for the ruinous chapel at Kilvickeon. Kilvickeon had been until this time the sole place of worship within the Established Church for the entire Ross of Mull. In 2004, Bunessan celebrated its Bi-centenary in the present building and throughout the year various events wre held to mark this milestone in its history. A special service was held on 29th July. This was attended by The Rev Dr Gilleasbuig Macmillan CVO, MA, BD, Drhic, DD, Minister of the High Kirk of Edinburgh (St Giles Cathedral) and Dean of the Thistle, a former pupil of Uisken and Bunessan schools, who preached the sermon. Creich Church is a beautiful, simple little church standing by the roadside close to Fionnphort, in an idyllic spot by the loch. An Annual Open-Air Service is held at Kilvickeon during the month of July. Services are held in either Bunessan Village Church, or at Creich Church close to Fionnphort each Sunday. Please note that during July the services will be at 7pm in St Ernans, Creich and also at Bunessan Church - alternating weeks, and at 9.45am during August. Visitors are always made most welcome. Minister: Rev Sydney Graham, The Manse, Bunessan (Tel: 01681 700227)
