Information on the village of Bunessan in Scotland.

Torosay Castle

Torosay Castle is situated about 1½ miles from the ferry terminal at Craignure. It can be accessed by road, on foot (about a mile through the forest along a clearly marked path), or by the Isle of Mull Railway.

This Victorian Mansion was designed by David Bryce for John Campbell, a sugar merchant. The house passed into the present family in 1865.

Open daily between early April and the end of October, 10.30am till 5pm, the House and Gardens are a pleasure to visit, with the Statue Walk, Water Garden and Japanese Garden. The Gardens, some 12 acres in area, are open all the year round; in Summer from 9am till 7pm, and during daylight hours in Winter.

Facilities provided include toilets, free coach and car parking, a tearoom serving light snacks and refreshments and a shop selling souvenirs. Farm buildings have been converted to provide bases for the Mull Weavers and other craft outlets.

The attached farm has a herd of pedigree Highland Cattle which are always of interest to the visitor.
